What you could receive
Repayable deferral of current-year property taxes if you qualify
Repayable financing. Repayable — not free savings.
The State Controller’s Property Tax Postponement Program lets qualifying homeowners defer current-year property taxes on a principal residence. Official 2026–27 criteria include at least 40% equity and household income of $57,002 or less, among other requirements. The deferral is secured by a lien and must eventually be repaid. This is financing, not free savings. The 2026–27 filing period opens October 1, 2026 and closes February 10, 2027. Applications became available in September 2026. Income, equity, and disability/age tests are not encoded as a single pass/fail rule.
